From the village ‘Ichathra’ which is on the bank of East Godavari River, the family belonging to Brahmin community has been brought by Raja Mayoora Varma to the south west coastal region in Karnataka State and they were settled in 14 villages around Saligrama, which is in Udupi Tq., and District. These people were later called as ‘Koota Brahmins’ and they have accepted ‘Sri Guru Narasimha’ as their family God for worship and Guru also. A very famous Sri Guru Narasimha Temple is also there at Saligrama. They were depending upon Agriculture and Vaidik (Purohit) profession for their livelihood. Year by year family growth fastened and in turn livelihood became difficult on those days
